Posh, posher with plenty of dosh. It does not worry me that our legislators are rich and well-connected; what worries me is that they all come from the same background. The famous schools and universities are not so good as Andrew Neill clearly thinks they are. Cambridge is and always was packed out with dons who had not done any original work for decades and were, quite simply, lazy. It is still true that those who can, do; those who can't, teach.
So the House of Commons is packed out on every side with people who have had the same education but no experience of life as it is led by the humble despised and, if possible, ignored voters. Moreover such an education inspires them with a supreme self confidence so that they have no hesitation in dealing with matters about which they know absolutely nothing.
So it is that we get people who know nothing about aircraft deciding to scrap Nimrod, people who know nothing about forestry selling all our trees as ignorance sweeps through our wounded country. When the cutters have stopped cutting there will be nothing left to admire - all done to satisfy some very large men looking at scraps of paper.
Do school leavers really want further education or further experience of life? It might be worth asking them.
Song: Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.
Wot's the use of worrying? It never was worthwhile.
So pack up your troubles in your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.
It is amazing to think that thousands of our troops sang this piece of propaganda as they went to their deaths.
